Hi all

Tried searching multiple places and phoning a bunch of insurance companies with no luck on definitive answers. Does anyone have renters insurance that would cover damaged caused by the aquarium whether due to water leak or damage cause by its weight?

I understand the tank itself wont be covered for replacement unless due to fire etc but i want coverage to cover incase of accidental water discharge or damage due to it causing structural damage.

Mainly im looking to be covered for liability to the landlord property not my personal items although that would be a bonus.

Can anyone help?

Thanks for the replies. I've tried a bunch of them (Nationwide, AAA, State Farm, Geico, Progressive, Farmers to name a few) my question is more as to if anyone has a policy that they know definitely covers what I mentioned above. They all say yes initially but when I question them further and they ask supervisors or claim specialist the answer seems to be always 'No, it wont cover it unless the damage is directly caused by a named peril'. These perils are things like storms, fire, hail etc. Even the sudden escape of water peril they say does not cover aquariums only things like fridges and water heaters where its plumbed in directly to the house feed.

Anyone have a policy they know 100% does cover damaged caused by an aquarium?

You should call and double check, he might be mixed up. I have allstate and my insurance is covered in case my tenants damage my property with water from an aquarium. This is only covered as long as they are not allowed to have one. I don't allow my tenants to have aquariums because of that.

Calling them this afternoon when i rented my apt and signed the papers theres a page i had to sign stating i would not move any water furniture into my apt aquarium/waterbed/luv toys lol!!! without renters insurance for a certain amount i think 20k and i had to provide the rental office with a copy as proof
