Hey guys I have a question. It's time to replace my t5 bulbs and i realized that I have 22" bulbs not 24". Does anyone have a suggestion as to what bulb I should go with? Doesn't look like there's a whole lot of options in 22" so any advice would be great. Thanks!

Usually the bulb lengths will not be the exact size of the fixture. Just read the etching on the lamp itself. If it says "24 watt T5HO" then that is considered a 24 inch lamp.

I bet you have 24" but they are literally, technically 22" in legnth. I think the 24" refers to the legnth of the fixture they fit in. I could be wrong but I can't find anything about 22" bulbs.

Wavepoint sells 24 watt lights that are 21 inch bulb length without the length of the pins. Hope that helps. Also they are only 20 bucks. Its what i use at the moment.

They have a few colors to play with as well,. Blue wave/ actinic 460, Reef wave/superviolet 03 actinic 420, Coral wave/coral growth accelerator, Red wave/ super coral generator, Sun wave/ super daylight 12000k, and Tropical wave/ full spectrum 6500k

I prefer ATI but that's up to you.

I like the Blues and Purples. The purples give you enough "white" so that the tank isn't completely blue but also bring reds and greens out.

I bought this fixture used and the bulbs that are in them now are ZooMed and they say 22" on the bulbs themselves. what are the actual lengths of the ATI 24" bulbs because those are what I wanted originally until I noticed the length differences. Thanks for all the replies too!

well my fixture is a 4 bulb. from what ive been reading most people enjoy a combo of 2 aquablue specials and 2 blue +. would you agree? Im also thinking about throwing a purple in there for color? My tank is only 20 gallons and i house mostly soft corals and a nem and a torch. What do you think a good combo is? I want a blue color but not 100% actinic and also good coral growth. I dont know if im asking for too much but let me know what you think. thanks!

Do not use the aquablue special! It's too white. Unless u like a 10k-12k color in ur tank

I like the 15k-20k look. Id go with this
ATI blue+
ATI coral +
Korallen Zucht Fiji Purple
ATI Blue +.

That would be a nice color combo. If u like the real white look, then switch out the coral+ bulb for an aquablue special

Unless you really like white light I wouldn't put more than one AB Special in there. They are very white.

I used to have:
B+
P+
AB Special
B+
This was too white for my taste in the end. I actually like the color better when I turned off the fixture with the AB Special. The purples actually put out a fair amount of light that "looks white".

When I replaced bulbs this year I went to:
B+
P+
B+
P+
I'm much happier now. It has a bluer look and my greens and reds show up better.

But it all depends on what you like. You're welcome to stop by if you want to see what mine look like. I just replaced them in September so they're still burning strong. Send a PM if you're interested.

What visible color does the Coral+ put out? I considered it when I replaced my bulbs last month but thought it put out 10k looking light.
