So Ive be running in aquaticlife 3700lph return pump in my 90 gallon reef since 2/12/12 with no problem at all till this morning i woke up to what sounds like marbles rattling around in my sump to find out its coming from my return pump :( .. I opened the pump to inspect the inards and everythin seems intact and clean reasembled and still nothing it sound as if theres blown out bearings or so the noise stops for a couple minutes and starts again then stops for a few minutes and starts again and so on . Has any one else experianced this ? I spoke with aquaticlife this morning about it and they will be contacting me the begining of next week or so to try to help cause the person that would be able to assist me is out till nxt week or so . The pump has been awsome and seems very well built and was very quite till this morning . Any info is highly appreciated as the rattling is becoming very annoying lol. Anyone else have this issue?what was the cause and solution? Thnks.

did you look at the impeller? Unscrew the cover and look. There should be about 5 screws I think. Any gravel or calcified material built up? If so remove it. If not pull the impeller out. Be careful its a strong magnet and you don't want to pinch your fingers. Look at the white casing of the impeller and marks or striations? If not look at the hole the impeller goes into. Do you see and striations or wholes? This can happen if something had been stuck in there. Also just check and make sure the little rubber feet are on as that helps to reduce any noise. Let me know what you find and we can figure it out from there.

Yup pulled it out twice to check parts for the rep and all looks good no piting, scratches,or any sign of something being lodged in there all parts are intact including the feet. I pluged and unpluged the pump a few times rapidly and the rattling toned down alot lets see if it starts loud again this evening after i feed its still louder than before like a rattling and no part of the pump is touching the sump besides the rubber feet. Spoke with the rep again this afternoon and answered sum questions for the tech to help trouble shoot hopefully it will be an easy fix. I have it plumbed with spa flex and pvc and tried it in sump ,in my sink and a bucket outside and still rattles like sumthing is loose inside but theres no other components it's pretty straightforward, impeller, shaft, ceramic rod for impeller, and 2 rubber cups for the rod nothing else visible and the front covers all ive taken off i aint messing with the back as i bought it new dont wana void warranty . I gotta say the customer service has been excellent so far it was nice actually talking to a real person and not leaving messages and playing the waiting games like most places for a return call.:)
