I'm sure I'm just paranoid but I always feel like I have to rinse/soak anything large that's going into my tank with atleast RO water. Like last night when I was cleaning out a 5g to be used for a qt tank I soaked it with part vinegar and rodi waste water (essentially ro water). I then rinsed it down with rodi water. I even rinse testing kit tools with rodi to prevent sediments from affecting the results next time.

Guess I'm just OCD like that. lol

yeah agreed rodi is the best but tap water is fine and wont hurt anything specially in a qt it wont affect anything the reason you use rodi in the reef is because of total dissolved solid and heavy metals will affect the algae growth and make it boom, but for fish only system really wont matter and can save u money to use tap water when cleaning and rinsing tap water should be fine it will be diluted , like micron socks (filter socks) I soak in bleach then use a hose to power wash or I wash in a washing machine, doesn't really matter and doesn't affect you tank its diluted when it hit the water colum specially in large systems !
