Hey, sorry for the late reply, but I bought my tank from Ali at Amazing Aquariums. Really cool guy. I live more by the brea side near carbon canyon so that's why it's a little easier for me to go out to the OC for stuff. So many fish places in that area. I've been to tropical reef too and he has a nice setup.

Here's an updated pic of my tank. The tank is already cycled, I started in September. I kept the lights off and didn't really have a problem with diatoms until the tank finished cycling and I had the lights on at a regular schedule. Then the diatoms exploded. I threw in a clean up crew and they are keeping the diatoms down slowly day by day. I only have a few nassarius and cerith snails in there along with a conch, 1 blue legged hermit crab, and 2 cleaner shrimp.

I bought some corals already: 1 head of dendro on the right under the ledge where there is minimal light and easy to spot feed. I also have some zoas, a green zoa frag, everlasting gobstoppers, and raptor's rainbow. I also have 2 types of xenias and blue cloves.

For fish, I started with a goby which hides under a rock with a pistol shrimp and I recently bought 2 plats from RAP at the Age of aquariums booth. They are still a little stressed with the move from Florida to the booth and then from the booth to my home. Dan from Age is a really cool guy and helped me out when they started looking sick. They are slowly starting to eat more now. Hopefully they make it okay.

And lastly, I bought a nem. Before I get flamed, I was told that it would be okay to have in my tank as long as my parameters were okay but after reading through the forums, now I know I shouldn't have it until my tank has been established for greater than 6 months. I'm going to keep a careful eye on it as well as my water parameters. So far it is doing okay. It found a crevice to hide in since day one and hasn't moved since then. It's in the rock on the left side and I've aimed my metal halide right at it blasting it with light! So far it doesn't look to bad but I've had it for only 4 days though now. Any suggestions? And by the way, my ammonia is zero, nitrites zero, and nitrates zero. pH is at 8.05 and temp at 78 degrees.

There was a white spot on one of my platinum's fin but now it's gone. Ich?

Here is my sump as it sits today:

The refugium has a cuc for detritus buildup. The chaeto was purchased about 3 weeks ago and it was the size of a tennis ball. Now it is 3 times larger and that is after giving pieces away 2 times. Nitrates are close to zero right now.

Very nice setup !!! I love your aquascaping job. What kind of light are you using? I've never seen one like that before.

Thanks! I appreciate the comment. I have an aquaticlife g12 fixture that has 2x 150 mh hid bulbs and 2xt5's. Working good so far. We'll see when I start taking care of Sps down the road.

Update: Stand is done except for the doors which I'm going have custom made. 3 coats of spar varnish should make it pretty resistant to the salt water.

I still have to make my sump, get a skimmer, do the plumbing. I have a long ways to go :(

Looks Great!! What does the plastic under the rock for? is that just to hold it in place?

Thanks for the compliments. I put the plastic there because I wanted to have a pistol shrimp and goby pair and I heard others put the egg crate so they wouldn't dig under the rock structure and have it collapse or fall over. Anyways, I put the sand over it and it also helps prevent the sand from moving too much from extreme powerhead flow.

Here is a pic of what my tank looks like now:

I killed most of my sps while learning how to care for them. Now I've finally found out how to keep them. Hopefully in the next year they'll be pretty big colonies.

Nice tank!! What is the rock shelf you have on the left side wall in front of the power head?

Haven't checked in socalireefs in awhile. Bella vita sorry for the late reply but that shelf is a magnetic shelf rock I bought from socaltropical when Tom owned the store. Lowbudget, that meteor shower has been growing on that rock since oct 2011. Hopefully it doesn't invade the other rocks!

Updates:
I bought an ato from John of AA. Great guy.
