I have an RO system currently but it seems to waste a lot of water. I'm guessing 1:10 ratio. I was just curious what would be a good RO system out there that doesn't waste so much water. What are you guys all using?

don't recall the brand i'm using but mine is gives me about 2 gallon waste pre gallon. I have the waste hose long enough to water my grass outside, but still not happy with all the wasted water.

There are a bunch, I would consult with your LFS and ask them questions. I believe many of them waste a bunch of water. I believe I have heard of a few systems that recycle some or all of the waste water. They are more efficient, but they cost a boat load more.

I would recommend an RO system with a pump, this will allow the GPD to be higher.

why not look into getting a new flow restrictor, one of the capillary types which allow you to cut them to length so you control the waste to permeate ratio?

here is an example page for some
http://search.waterfilters.net/search?w=capillary+flow+restrictor

you can also go to spectrapure's home web site and look around, i think they even have instructions for setting up a capillary flow restrictor

good luck

I bought it from Mystic Reef in Riverside for $300. But I think you can find a good deal online from $300-$320. I see them on Aquacave.com and fishybusiness.com right now for $319.

Ya, those guys are cool. I always see them when I am out that way, my wifes parents live just on the otherside of limonite. So when we visit them, I got to Mystic...lol.

Ya...I did notice these RO/DI units were stocked at SoCal Tropical this weekend...but I didn't check the price. I did however pick up a sweet VorTech MP40 there for $385! I'm not sure of those are still on sale or not but I scored :)

Tom is the person to see if you ever need supplies. Best prices, best sales, always friendly, and always willing to give advice and help you out. The vertex puratek is hands down the best ro/di I have ever purchased. Socal tropical fish outlet is my home away from home.
