okay im totally confused about rodi vs ro systems. so which is better for reef tanks? why cant you drink rodi system water? whats the difference? why are there so many stages of filtration? of course more is allways better but ive seen 2 - 7 stages of filtration, is rodi water so pure it's harmful like how ice can get so cold it burns :a42: why can fire get so hot it freezes ahha

RODI is pure and not intended for drinking. ive heard (maybe wrong) that it removes minerals from your body. it is perfectly safe to drink but should not be your only source of water.

RO is regular clean water, not clean enough for your tank.

the DI part is deionization which strips out all the trace elements - that plus reverse osmosis gives you pure water. It's not "good" to drink because your body needs these trace elements. For that matter, it's really not good for your tank either (why you would never use RODI water for a fresh water tank). But in a marine aquarium your salt mix is adding back the trace elements in a desired proportion.

I've never heard that, and my SS sink is just fine... (shrugs shoulders)

Need to make sure that there are no cracks on the canister and does not have a leak near the ring. You have to also consider in your purchase cost that you are going to purchase a new set of filters.

You need test the water after making it with the rodi system with a tds meter to see if the water is pure or not. If it is not then you need to change the filters of the unit. A reading of 0 ppm is good which mean you have no trace elements in the water. I think with only RO unit only you can't get to 0 ppm reading.

Tap water TDS is around 350-450 depending on where you live. Ideally RO water should be TDS of <10 if your RO membrame is working right. RO/DI water has TDS of 0. Distilled water and RO/DI water are almost the same both having zero. You should use RO water to drink as much as possible, ie cooking, juices, ice, baby formula, etc. Most bottle water you buy at the store is RO water. TDS is the same. Hope it makes sense
