I'm planning on running a UV on my tank. It's probably 250g water volume. Dual use, for protozoans and clearing up the water.

Should I get a 55w or a 90w?

I've seen successful reefs with no UV as well, so I want to get some opinions on UV. Do you run one? Do you run it 24/7 or just sporadically?

Having a 90w running constantly does seem like a lot of power use.

Pump variability will matter when achieving either of you goals. Best bet may be to get larger option and only run when needed

For a fish only tank yes with the 55w UV. For a
Mix reef tank I wouldn’t use it. Reason being more equipment to clean and maintain plus higher electricity bill as well.

Someone told me that UV is like an insurance. Similar to a chiller, you don’t need it until you really need it. I do see a lot of big coral suppliers do run UV’s.
