Hey, I have a bucket of d+d salt that I left outside for like a year. I opened it up today to finally use some, and the salt has turned into one solid block. I assume some water infiltrated the bucket somehow? Is the salt still good to use? Or should I just Dutch it? Thanks.

If it didn't get any moisture in it, it should be fine, but once it does get moisture in it, you would have issues with it dissolving, so in this case its trash I.M.O.

I currently have a bucket of Reef Crystals that did the same thing to me...I've had it for a year, but it's been rock solid for a couple months now and I just break it up and I have no problems. I tested the water and the levels are still where they're supposed to be. I'd say try and break it up....mix up a batch, test the water and go from there.

No need in wasting money right?

Break it and use it, if not give to some new hobbyist to recycle their tank.
I have tropic Marin doing that , it was fine for my tank

there seems to be controversy on this. you know how people say you should slowly add the salt to a bucket of RO/DI with a powerhead already swriling & never the other way around, basically you just added a tiny amount of water to a full bucket of salt.

there are concerns that certain ions formed salts (positive + negative charge) and these are so strongly ionically bonded that they will not go back into solution if you add more water? perhaps the trace minerals? this is especially true with the main buffer: sodium bicarbonate. some people believe that it will be hard to redisolve this to an acceptable dKH.

if you can spare a lot of RO/DI & have a big enough container, find out for yourself. just use the entire bucket of salt in the advertised volume of RO/DI. I woulnd break off chunks for partial use as the salt tends to settle out and become non-homegous during sitting. *IF* the salt fully dissolves, test params...

personally this has happened to me 3 times with 200g buckets of Tropic Marin regular & I used the whole bucket, tested OK, had no issues with coral. then again, another bucket of D&D is relatively cheap compared to coral.
