Today I went to my first LFS since my move here. I went there looking for salt and I was not expecting what I found. Instant Ocean salt was $70 for a 160g pail. Is that typical around here? Back in MN it is sold near cost with the idea that it got people in the door. I was just wondering if that is typical for So. Cal. or what?

I just ordered from livaquaria, it was $35 per bucket shipped for IO. Normally I don't mind paying a little more to support the local stores, but thats just too much for a college student.

fostersmith also has great deals on oceanic and reef crystals. My LFS also has jacked up salt prices so I mail order all my salt now... except socaltropicalfish sounds like they have good prices, $45 for oceanpro is a good deal.

Second Tom for salt locally. If you have time and a coupon, drsfoster maybe a decent option as well.

Im not sure why salt prices skyrocketed this year. IO went up 50% everywhere including fostersmith. The cheapest around is Oceanpure at Marine Depot if you will call.
