Reading and research are your two best friends. Take things slow and make sure your having fun. A solid I would tell a first timer would be to use dry rock, save your self the hassle of having to deal with pests like aiptasias or mantis shrimp. Might take a little longer to cycle but in the end, it could save your tank.

We have a 40g
8 hermits(3blue leg, 5 red leg)
2 chromis
1 azure damsel
2 nassarius snail
1 antenna goby
2 clowns
1 powder blue tang
1 pencil urchin
1 peppermint shrimp

am loving staring at all the action in the tank... So much more interesting than a freshwater tank... Only one problem so far.... I already want a bigger tank and more fish and corals..

Be patient, research, ask questions. Avoid costly mistakes that many of us have experienced by buying on an impulse.
