Sand sifting Sleeper Goby

I bought this last weekend and I'm afraid of 2 things, he's too big for my 28 gal (3"+) and that my sandbed isn't enough for him as he's getting skinny.

He has mowed a lot of my sandbed and I like this guy a lot, he has made a great little home under the rock in front of these photos. I've had this tank for a year and already lost a diamond goby after about a month for not having enough food for it I think.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

place mysis shrimp in the sand so he can devour it. Especially near his cave
