Adding this 120v solenoid to the drain on my skimmer collection cup. I was originally going to buy one of those avast marine skimmate lockers, but then I realized I can just run a line outside my house to the drain in my side yard. I'll have the solenoid hooked up to my apex, and I'll have it setup to drain every couple of days. No more dumping nasty skimmate down the kitchen sink! Fianc def approves of this upgrade. Lol

Hey Nick,

I know this information is probably buries some where in your thread, but what was the ratio of LEDs (for example: cool whites, neutral whites, blues, violets, royal blues, etc.) you used for your DIY setup? I'd like to do something similar and just want to see how feasible it'll be and if i can squeeze it into the budget.

Also, pics are looking great. Love seeing the frags start encrusting on the live rock. Good work.

Hey nick here's a what if. What if, good forbid your girl buys a new air freshener and uses it a few minutes before your skimmer cup drains. Your BK goes nuts a over fills your cup and your drain solenoid turns opens up and u start draining your tank. Then your auto top off kicks on and starts dumping fresh water into your tank. Then u get home to a brackish tank filled with dead corals and fish.

We all know if something bad is going to happen it's going to happen at the worse time. That's just this hobby.

Yea that's always a possibility...but there's always something that could go wrong and destroy the tank.

What if ur tank cracks, what if ur roof collapses, what if there's an earthquake etc etc.

Dude, get the vertex neck cleaner and forget about your skimmer all together! I haven't touched me skimmer cup other to drain it.
