Nick give it a few days it will skim some nasty stuff. My 300 is in 9.5" of water and is working really really well. I like it much better them my SRO. Not that the SRO was bad at all, it was great. This one is just much more stable with the foam head and doesn't seem as temperamental with change. Play with the adjustments over the next couple days to see how it works with different height inside the skimmer.

Is your intake screw in your skimmer pump turned all the way in? you can fine tune it by adjusting in and out, my water level is at 10" and the screw is turn out about a 1/4 out this works best for me.
I have the original pump intake. No adjustment screw. They came out with that on later models so that the skimmer would work in different water levels. With My skimmer apparently it's 9" or nothing. Lol. It's working bitchen right now.

those lights sure do look like a lot of work. how much would you say that you're going to save by building them yourself as opposed to say buying a nice fixture that's pre-made?

-2x 48" ATI led/t5 hybrid. $4,000
Or
-5x Radion $3500

- DIY LEDs, drivers, t5 ballasts, retrofit kit etc etc I have about $1000-$1200 I reused parts from my old light. So really I only have about $700 in this new light.

It's not as hard as it looks. More then anything, it's just time consuming.
