SeaClear II Protein skimmer

Hi, I recently bought a 75gal SeaClear system II. It comes with the Integrated wet/dry filter on the back. Great system, however, the protein skimmer chamber is very small and the instructions say that I need to get a SeaClear protein skimmer. I found it at Petsmart but it looks VERY cheap on the picture and its not unexpensive. Does anybody has any experience on these systems and know if I could use a different type of hang on skimmer on this tank? My guess is that as long as the pump fits in the chamber it would be OK?
