So, after Diesel gave birth to a huge batch of fry.. We ( Mosquared and I) need to thin the herd. Maybe a 100 ( +\-) Reidi fry need to go to a home with ESTABLISHED copepod cultures, Rotifers as well.. They need alot of live pods (parvocalanus are best ) for several weeks till they can take BBS . MoMo has offered his T ISO phyto to enrich the pods since that is nutritionally required for the fry to survive. Only need a few 5 gallon buckets w heat an an airline to house them w frequent water changes. Please lmk if you can handle these little guys.. Must go soon since they are on day 3 now!!
Thanks!!
Jami

I want. Have my own phyto but not pods other than what's in my sump. If there is a local source, I'm down.

There's not a steady local source that I have found.. And they are very pricey if not cultured... They need ALOT!

Pet world has 15 x 16 oz. Algen pods in stock near me. I think that might work.

Regarding phyto, I have four gallons currently. I've been splitting since that buy we both took part in.

What kind of pods? The T ISO is really the phyto you want.. MoMo will provide for you :)

Ok, cool! The phyto we bought is inadequate tho.. Need the T ISO for their HUFA requirements for enriching.. But that's no issue since Mo is culturing exactly that for the SH fry :)

Just for reference Eric.. One bottle of those would likely be short of one entire feeding .. If you had 100 of course... That's a bottle a day for 2-3 weeks :/

Doing monkey math.. To order enough pods in bulk from Reed ( 25k / $75 per 5 days) to sustain the 100 fry.. To buy pods would run in the neighborhood of $300 minimum.. To get them to 3 weeks old and onto BBS . So that's why I stressed ' established cultures going' .. But if your budget allows the ordering .. Great. Just trying to make it easy for everyone expressing interest .. :)

rotifers feed with T ISO could work ... I would suggest copepods for at least a couple days to just get them big enough and also grown out enough for a better digestive track, and then I'm sure they'll take some rotifers. You won't get a high success rate but hell even with copepods I don't see a high survival rate.

The nutrition is there with the correct copepod, its the other things that limit my survival rate. cleanliness of the tank, bacterial issues, etc. are still other problems to watch for.

I wondered what the success rate actually was.
