so i've had my 5gal eco-pico since end of december but never took care of it.(boyfriend did)
i just recently upgraded to a nano-cube 28gal a few weeks ago and have decided to at least try to take care of it on my own...so i guess you can say im a beginner? As of right now my boyfriend still checks the water and etc..i just decorate, feed my corals and fishes..oh i clean too. LOL. so im going to post up my tanks and any suggestions on what kind of corals or fish that will make it look better will be great! LMK what you think of it cause i love feed back! **i plan on transferring everything from my 5gal to 28nano!

here is my eco-pico that my boyfriend turned into an anemone tank because it isnt ready to transfer into my nano-cube.

living beneath the rock the anemones stick on are:
-yellow watchman goby
-candy pistol shrimp =)

Now is my 28gal. It looks a mess now because it's in the process of "cycling." so there is mad algae EVERYWHERE!

Nice tank...what kind of lighting is in your new tank? One of the weak points on almost all nanos is the stock lighting....if you can upgrade to some T5 lighting, you will love how much nicer all your corals will look.

im not a big fan of candy canes..but looking at my tank, i actually think it'd look good on the right.. those will need high lighting right? and as for my lighting..i havent changed them out, they're still stock. the only thing i did differently to them was switch the blue bulbs to the front of the tank. I noticed a lot of people have t5s..ill look more into that. also, my favia is starting to turn white..i thought it was because of the high lighting when i had it on top..so i lowered it. it seems to be getting worse and its colors are fading..what can i do to save it before it ...dies?

Candy canes do well in moderate to high lighting, you gotta experiment to see what works better for you i have some on my sand bed on a 24" tall tank under leds 18 inches above water line in they are doing great, moderate flow. As for corals turning white or bleaching you might want to check you calcium levels and all you parameters, i heard favia recuires high levels a calcium, good luck.

till they burn out?? my family owns an electrical company and it will take years to burn out bulbs especially since they are not run as long as industrials are.. so i would definately recommend getting good bulbs and if ur running them 8hrs a day to change them every 8-12months..

All bulbs lose their useful spectrum as early as 8 months. So although the bulb may not burn out for a couple years, the spectrum will have been unhealthy for your specimens for month/years. T5s are great because they put out the most PAR(photosynthetically available radiation) for the least amount of energy/cost. They are also easily switched out for a unique color combination.
