I noticed tonight that my new black and white clowns look like they are getting sick. The larger female has a slime that seems to be on her body and a couple fins. the smaller is not as bad but seems to have a little on him as well. I looked up a bunch of stuff and I keep seeing brooklynella, but everything says they breath heavy and are lethargic. I see no signs of that at all. They do seem to shake and rub the sand a little trying to get the slime off but the otherwise swim fine. its not ich its like something with there slime coat. Anybody have any thoughts. I dont want to loose these guys

Beginning stages of brook. Need to treat with formalin. That stuff is toxic so be careful. Treat in a qt or hospital tank. Whatever the bottle says halve the dosage, i.e., instead of every day treatment, go every other day. I can't remember exactly, it was in a treatment book I had and let someone borrow and did not get back. See if you can do some more research, but for sure it is brook and the only way to treat is with formalin, that I am aware. Good luck.

One didn't make the night the other looked the same this morning. I don't have a qt tank but im taking a half day at work to pick up one so I can treat. Tank is at 78.8° so im not cooking them. Anybody know where I can get formalin. Thanks for the help guys. I feel so bad for them. I think I fair them by not having a qt tank sooner. Guess I learned my lesson.

The only reason I said that is because once along time ago one of my heaters broke and got my tank to like 98* and my fish were all messed up. As for a QT tank ive used a 5 gallon home depot bucket with a small pump. Thats a fast easy way to get them into somthing.

We have had this same issue and treated with formalin. We used the full dose and it cleared up pretty quick, lucky for us, all our clowns are in our breeding tanks and have no corals or inverts so we could treat the whole system.
Funny you would ask if it was a ora clown or not, HAHA!! The only clowns that we have issues with have been ora!! Go figure.... Out of 20 clowns, 8 where ora and all but one has had issues, out of the 8, 5 died due to parasites (internal and external) We did all we could to save them but couldnt do it, they were too far gone once we got them!

For the future just take then or any fish out at first signs and treat. The longer you try to feed them and ride it out mostly will be worst off for them. Sorry for your loss. Nature of the hobby aknolls you know what to do.

Thanks guys. I got the other one in a hospital tank today but it was just to far gone and I lost him just a little while ago. I could not find formalin but did find rid ich that had formalin so i used that. They were T.R. clowns dont know if they were ora or not. Was hoping not to have problems with them since they were t.r. but as you can see i did. Well now I have the stuff I need if it happens again so I will treat if I see any issues in the future.

Yea, sorry to hear about losing both of them. It's a bad feeling, unfortunately, I know first hand.
