We adopted a Yellow Tang about a year ago from another reefer, she is about 3"+, always been very social (her name is Bright Eyes, per Emily), knew that food was kept in the fridge, etc. The last two weeks she hasn't been herself. Not feeding like she use to, not first in line for nori, seems to hide in the shade behind rocks or under some monti shelves.

Water is good NH4, NO3 at zero, Nitrates at about 3-5, PO4 at .36-ish, PH at 8.2, salt at 1.025. Temp has had some issues since 1/5th crapped out, but never more than 82 or under 79. No changes to light or hardware in a few months. Water changes every 10 days (about 15%). All other fish and coral seem fine.

She looks pale, not social, still eating but not like she use to.

Any recommendations? QT maybe? Or would that stress her more?

Any ideas appreciated!

Peter

check for stray voltage. Since it's still eating feed nori with garlic and soak frozen food in Selcon (if you don't already) this will help it stay strong and boost it's immune system. Vitamin C in the food would help as well

We have been doing Blue Sea (or whatever SDC's brand is) garlic extract with ever other feeding (mixed food, veg & meat). Voltage I don't think is an issue but I'll double check.

Other fish seem fine (about 6) and coral feed and fluff as normal, the flame angel which is friends with the tang is stressed but I think it's because he won't leave her side.

I do dose Brightwell vitamin which has C for coral but I'll research how to dose for fish.

Thank you so much for the input, she has become part of the family, lots of personality and we'd hate to loose her.

Also want to add. The only thing that has passed in the tank was a feather star.

Our guy who maintains the office tank put one in there when I wasn't able to audit the new additions.

I told we didn't want it once I found out but he wouldn't take it back the next day. It started to die because we don't take care of the work tank like I do my DT, hence I'm very selective.

I brought it home, got it feeding to were it stopped dropping arms, but over time it didn't make it as I expected. I had no spike in levels and I read nothing about toxicity with feather stars.

Just want to make sure I paint the entire picture.

She is out now, so I'm going to see if she will eat dinner.

Thank you again,
P-

Other that what I mentioned above, no. I do move stuff from my frag to the DT and back, mainly chalices, blastos, and acans. But the fish in the FT &DT are fine, same paras, etc.

Always a chance though. We are pretty bad about dipping and known aquacultured local sources for any New live stock in our home tanks. All about the whole sustainability thing.

We are at the point if thinking she might just be sick and do everything we can to just make her comfortable. QT we're thinking might just be too much. She hasn't eaten yet tonight but food is soaking now.

No new additions in 4-5 months other than the feather star mentioned above. Our starry blenny picks them off just for fun because he's an "***", done trying. I've never seen him pick at the tang, more so just hanging with the tang in the past, nor any other fish, Bright Eyes is the biggest fish in the tank. There are no other tangs as well, all the fish in the tank have been together for about 8-10 months now or more.

Just to list them:
1 Yellow Tang (the one in question)
2 tank breed Banggi Cardinals
1 Starry Blenny
1 Flame Angel
1 True Clown
1 Strawberry Gramma
1 Flame Hawk

Lots of various hermits, snails, 1 coral banded shrimp. Two RBTA (recently split), lots of LPS, Softies, and some SPS. All others doing fine from what we can tell.
