I have a 30g reef tank with a: royal gramma, 1 perc clown, cleaner shrimp and a sapphire damsel. I really want a 6 line, but am worried about him beating up on my royal gramma or clown. This would be the last fish for this tank.

Are they really that bad? Do they get worse with age? I know they are individuals so it's hard to say, but what are your experiences?

There is a ton of live rock in the tank, so lots of territory/hiding places. But the RG is a rockdweller, so...

Opinions? I am really torn. Read some terrible stories, but then others say they are great.

Thanks in advance

I like mine! but you will never be able to get any smaller/timid wrasses in the same tank. The only wrasse I have other than the 6x is the mystery wrasse, and the only reason it survived is that it is about 4x bigger than the 6 line & just as fast.

Ours was a little punk. If that's the only wrasse you e er want then fine but stay away if you think you might want other wrasse in the future. Lime cycle said only larger and aggressive wrasse will be able to survive with a 6 line. He was not for us so he had to go

If its the last fish in, you should be fine. If you add any fish after the 6, good luck.

I've had mine in a populated community tank for about 2 years now and never had a problem. He gets along great with everyone. I also saw my population of baby bristleworms diminish to nothing after I added him :) Not all of them will do that, but I got lucky. I know some people are pro-bristleworm, but they creep me out! Yellow Coris wrasses are another great addition. You can have muliples of them and they're really pretty :)

Sigh...that's a bummer, I think I'll pass on him. I know there are some good stories, but I hear of too many that are negative. Just love the active movement and his coloration. Any fish suggestions for a 30g reef with: royal gramma, 1 perc clown, cleaner shrimp and a sapphire damsel?

I see alot of fish I would like but they either need a bigger tank or nip on corals. For some reason it seems difficult to find these last two fish. We are looking for out-in-the-open swimmers, not rock dwellers or bottom dwellers. I like the firefish but hear 1.) they are jumpers 2.) they hide in rockwork a fair amount of the time or when startled.

Any suggestions on some confident active fish?

I'm so torn! lol

Too afraid of trying to fish trap that little bastard though if he doesnt work out. Already had to remove everything once for a diamond goby that was sifting a bit *too* much. Don't want to do that again for the six line.

Try to get one that's already in a established tank and doesn't bother any other fish, but GL

I know the thread's a coupe weeks old but felt like posting anyways lol. If you really want a 6 Line but have reservations than get a small one. IDK, I've not had any problems. But like I said, the yellow Coris Wrasse is great too. Firefish are a bit timd, I think they do better in small groups. But if you got a couple they'd probably do great. I think the main thing with them is that they need a peaceful tank with smaller sized fish. I think the bigger fish scare them a bit. When I had mine in my old 40 gallon with smaller wrasse and young Tangs and Butterfly they were fine.

Yeah I'm still thinking about the 6 line, just not sure. My last addition was a sapphire damsel and the clown and RG beat on him, but I'm thinking since the 6 line would be last (and yeah good idea on getting a small one) that maybe he would hold his own but not be nasty. I'll be moving up to a 75g in a few months so I think that would help things too. I should give it a try, but images of breaking down a tank to get a little 6 line out of there if needed scare me...lol

Anyone have a NICE small 6 line in their tank that they would sell? :)

You will be fine with a small six line. We put a small one in our tank way back when it was a 29 gallon and it didn't bother any of the other fish. Now the same fish is in a 120 and it still just cruises and does his own thing. Cool fish if you ask me. I also have another one in my small tank that lives with a tiny chromis and they get along fine.

Hi Jeff! (bought those great green bay morph zoas from you a couple months back, they are doing great!) thanks for your input, thinking I might take a chance on a small 6 line. Would be nice for pest control too, added bonus. Love that they will cruise all over the place and add some movement.
