Wondering how often everyone is cleaning the skimmer? I don't mean the cup but the whole thing breakdown and scrub it. What determines when you do it.

The super reef octopus is a hassle to clean. The body of the skimmer does not detach from the base, so it's a pain to get in and clean. The pump is super easy. I clean my pump like every couple months.

Ill let it sit in vinegar over night with the pumps then give good wipe down and rinse with fresh water. I leave an air stone in the sump to keep the water oxygenated but I feel that the return water mixes enough water and air to keep it oxygenated. I do it about every other month.

clean the skimmer???? people do this?

I've been lagging on cleaning mine cuz my sump sucks and I'm getting a new custom one next month.. everything is jammed into this tiny sump so it's hard to get things in and out. so I'll just let it get gross and do it all in one shot next month. with the new better access i'll have, I will be cleaning once a month hopefully.

i try and just keep the neck of the cup and main body clean and i clean the pump about every 2-3 months. Vinegar +1 but too much cleaning makes the skimmer have to break in again.
