So what are you going to do now that it is hot and humid at the same time?

Well, the weather forecast predicts that it will be triple digit for the rest of the week. Worse, it will be very humid as well. This just means the fans are not going to be efficient AT ALL. SCE sent me a notice as today is power saving day, so no A/C from 2 to 6 pm good be nice; I could careless about the saving for now. However, that means a lot of people will be using the central air units and they might cut the power to my central unit as I am a member of "the" program. All I need to another power outage and the whole fish tank will just take a fast reset!
At 6AM, my fans had started working already...They never stopped since last night or the day before! Tank temp was 78.5 so I have some buffer, but that won't take long when the heat out side kicks in as the humidity rises. Having to leave for work with the chiller in the shed, I did some quick fix. A big zip bag of ice cube to the sump. Chaeto can take it I guess....Just checking now at 1:16pm, tank temp is 78.7; 5 more hours ...................... :)

Humid and hot means AC and fan point at my nuts. I turned my AC on early this morning. Some people turn it on when its hit then turn it off and on. They don't realize that keeling your house cool early is better then trying to cool it down from super hot. So its cheaper to keep it in all day at 75 or so.

daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaam it..i can't believe you just typed that....i swear my response was going to be this:

What am I gonna do? What any self respecting person would do...take a cold shower and after getting out of the shower, direct the fan at my junk region.

My 55 gallon just hit 79 but downstairs is a cool 77. Fan went on at 8 a.m. My 40 gal breeder is at 79 and room is about 80 degrees. Might go up to 81 or 82 so I have some ice bottles ready

I put my A/C on "Dry Mode" drops the humidity and keeps the temperature nice and cool. It also runs super efficiently this way, barely runs the compressor at all. This mode is also called dehumidify mode on some A/C's.

Interesting ideas with some folks here, didn't realize this community had so many innovators. :)

Hot down there? That's cute ;) it's been over 100 every day up here for weeks not. Even with my ac running constant it's hard to get the house to 82 during the day so I just leave the house open and ac off when I'm not home. It's usually 88-89 inside when I get home and then I kick the ac on. My chiller is my best friend, tank stays 77.5-78 all day long.

Something is wrong with your ac then. I'm in the desert with hotter temps and my pad stay 73-74 with the ac. I work too hard to be uncomfortable when I get home and my fish should stay comfy as well.

Well my fans aren't working. Busted out the chiller only to find I was missing the nipples and nuts. Fml.

Dropping the humidity in the house will also increase the efficiency of any fans you may be running on your tanks.

My condo is only 8 years old, I just think they used a cheap ac unit. Also probably doesn't help that the house is on top of the garage. I'm usually only home at night though and the ac cools the house down fine then. The fish always stay comfy with the chiller.

When its hot and humid, I crack open a cold 6 pack of lagunitas IPA, post up in the living room or in my room and gaze into my tank while buzzed. My AC is on only during really hot days (85+), its mostly turned on at night so my family can sleep comfortably. My Tank on hot days runs up to 82, then i turn on my clip on fan and keeps it at a steady 80 ( thats where i keep my temp at). When im alone in my house and its hot, I usually go commando. 🏻

Makes perfect sense. Being on top of the garage you're getting heat from the bottom and top. Bummer

We turned on the central air around 7:30AM to cool off the house b4 it heating up. I also have all the windows closed to keep the home cooler a bit. My tank temperature was hoovering around 78.1 around lunch time today:)! By next summer, I would be stressed free about the hot temperature for sure.
