I'm not sure lol. I'll be picking up this from the seller this weekend. It's not WYSIWYG coral, since he had to cut it. It's suppose to be under T5, 3 blue plus and one fiji purple.

Some really nice editing going on with that acan. My guess is you'll have to put the PC monitor in the tank to get those colors.

BS aside, I'm sure it's a nice acan. It doesn't look like that to the eye but it'll still probably be nice looking.

makes me wonder though, what is the standard of measure for reefers on what is "edited" vs. "WYSIWYG"?

as a photo buff, i find it incredibly difficult to define a "natural" photo, because it's not just the type of light that impacts the photo. you have a series of options within the camera to adjust the color temperature, which would greatly impact the colors shown in the pic.

i generally shot photos in raw with a flat processing, so when it comes directly out of the camera, it always looks a bit washed out. i do that because when you boost the contrast in the camera, you lose some digital information which can not be recovered, whereas if you go with the neutral process, you can adjust contrast and saturation in post-processing.

i don't consider anything that comes directly out of my camera to be "WYSIWYG", because they all require additional processing to be color accurate.

add to that, the color rendition of everyone's monitor's different. My monitor is color calibrated every 15 days, which does me absolutely no good on web-destined images. the colors are calibrated to the print machine specific to the signal hill costco, so i know that what's on my screen, is what would print out at costco.

so, what do people consider WYSIWYG?

I consider WYSIWYG is you take the montior and put it in the water. =) have to be EXACT.

Don't get your hopes high lol jk but t5s do give it that color pop, but that image is really enhanced. There is no DSLR that can take a pic that bright without the help of photoshop :) nice patterns tho.

I just hope it's not just another maricultured acan that someone's had for a month or two that doesn't keep it's color beyond that. And I really hope you're keeping this under T5's which is what most of the big acan collectors do. Good luck man! Can't wait for the pictures!

I very much agree with the difficulty of in tank photos. Lots of photos out there are so questionable as to how they may have been color corrected. Everyone has a different monitor for sure but perhaps most significant everyone has a different vision or perhaps optical iq. I strive for matching what I see in the tank to the photos. I also shoot in raw and then color correct with photoshop elements. My old ushios 250 watt 20ks only required photo shop elements adjusting temp to 20 k and compensating exposure slightly. My new radiums seem to be much more challenging. And yes it upsets me when someone shows a coral that I have but they have grossly color corrected to something unreal. So what is required is handling the technical issues with the camera, the lights , post processing and a gift of color correcting accurately--it's hard. And then when you are bragging or selling, the challenges are even harder. And then led shots or all actinic, I hate those because you know it is all goofy and unlikely representative of the piece. Besides I hate blue tanks but that's just me. And I can't take a photo under LEDs, it just impossible

Back on topic, hopefully your acan photo is accurate or atleast close. That acan photo is stunning even if super bright exaggerated. And maybe the photo is spot on, that would be great. Everyone wants to see your photo in your tank. Just take it under all actinics, Photoshop the exposure, tweak what you need to and I am looking forward to your frag sale in a couple of months
