Anyone out there willing to help me cut a small sheet of acrylic and round the edges? I want to give it a shot but would like to see it done first but someone who knows what they're doing. Seems like everyone has their own way of doing it from a cheap wood blade (table saw) to a $100 blade that's someone specialized.

Following along here in case anyone shares some advice, I'm just getting into DIY acrylic construction, so far my skimmer and reactor look good. Still need to actually put them into production. Next project may be a sump.

If you're going to do a sump I think it's a lot cheaper/easier to do it with glass. You can pick up a 15 or 20 gallon tank from Petco for $20. You can build the sections/baffles yourself by buying glass at a local hardware store much cheaper than acrylic. They'll cut the glass to size at half the cost of acrylic.

Rich,
Who did you order acrylic from? I stop at Plastic Depot in Torrance since it's near my office, the prices are 'fare', and I've been picking up sheets from the "odds/ends" bin which are only $4.50 a pound, but I've been looking for a cheaper source for larger cuts (4'x2').

Not to high-jack the thread regarding the comment to my post, but as for the sump, I don't like glass. Back in the '94 quake i lost some amazing fish in my glass tank (cracked in place). And overall, I just seem to have bad luck with glass, cracked the bottom of a Petco 10g (frag tank sump) just putting the collector cup on a NAC 3.5. That wouldn't happen to acrylic. Glass & I just don't get along.....

If you do need/want help, I have a miter slide saw with an 80t blade, and a good router. Trial and error has taught me a lot. We do make it down to OC about every other week.
