Congrats... but (and not to be a downer here), TV advertising doesn't seem to be the most efficient form of advertising (I would think that internet advertising would better capture your niche audience/customers).

Now if you're trying to pull "new" customers, I can see that it might be helpful. But you have to hope they don't have Tivo or Direct TV... otherwise they'll just fast forward through your commercial.

I just know how expensive TV advertising can be, and would hate to see the advertising costs be passed on to us through raised ticket prices in the future.

Enough of my rambling though... congrats on the milestone, and for everyone's sake, I hope this brings many more reefers into the market!

Obviously the best of both worlds is to have a diverse mixture of "all of the above" within a reasonable cost basis of course. You are correct in the statement that passing on costs to the attendees would be inappropriate at best. On the contrary, we have reached a point of stability for the show in that instead of reaping economic profits, we have elected to invest back into the show. We seek not only a fresh turnaround but also strive for constant improvement of value-added services. Our exhibitors expect this of us and so we go one step further by providing even more. How we do this is proprietary in nature but I assure you that there is far more going on behind the curtain than people realize.

As for the attendees, the ten quality speakers scheduled for MAX 2011 is not only unprecented, but valuable in and of itself enough to justify the meager $15 admission charge and inconvenience of $5 parking. We provide a quality show that people of all age groups and genders will enjoy. Everything else is just bonus!

Sounds good... I always go for the speakers, finding nice corals and meeting up with old friends (which is worth the $15 admission). I just made the comment because typically businesses will have a bottom-line figure (for earnings) and don't increase their expenses without somehow recouping those through higher income (which typically results in being passed to the customer). I'm happy to hear that MAX has become self-sufficient enough to justify spending more on TV advertising without having to pass this expense along to us!

Thanks for the clarification.

Yes, that is why all of the speakers are men - because we all know that there are no women who engage in marine biology or even reef-keeping. Besides, women love being told what to do by THE MEN.

More seriously, I think it would benefit everyone if MAX would get women speakers at future events.
