So, here is my long overdue build thread. A very active 2 year old and the birth of our second daughter has been limiting my time on these forums. I was hoping to document everything from the stand build to the LC treating of my dry pukani rock, so this is the condensed version.

Tank: 75 gallon rimless peninsula 36x24x20
Sump: 20long
Lighting: DIY T5/LED in progress(4x39 T5 currently)
Skimmer: SRO1000
Powerhead: Tunze 6095
Return: Water Blaster 3000

I built the stand myself and I'm very happy with the outcome. This was my first time really building anything with wood. I used 3/4" plywood to build a box and routered out the openings. Secured everything with pockethole screws and glue. This thing is rock solid. I did a vintage finish on it and made a faux drawer front. This is how it turned out.

I got everything wet this past weekend. This is the initial scape I came up with. I ordered 75lbs of dry pukani and only used 2/3rd's. This rock is great but leached phosphates like crazy. I dosed a lil phos-free after 6 weeks of water changes and it took care of the phosphates immediately.

So, I had my rock in a brute cans for the past 3 months and started the cycle there with a shrimp about 8 weeks ago. I never tested for ammonia but did test for nitrate and got a reading of greater than 4ppm (red sea test kits) at which point i did a water change. Ammonia has been 0ppm and nitrates have been around 0.25ppm. Do you guys think I'm good to start stocking? I bought a chromis yesterday and put him in QT, so I still have at least 4 more weeks before anything goes in.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks for looking

The stand is awesome. And I love routers so the woodworker in me enjoyed that detail. The front looks really cool and the vintage finish and fake drawer looks really nice and imaginative.

I think if you're tracking Oppm Ammonia and just a little NO3 then you're good to go with stocking. If you're not sure, "feed" the tank with some food and then test. Or just get something in there and test for ammonia. Have some ammonia binder ready just in case or maybe some bottled bacteria.

The tank looks great!
