I have this Chalice colony that came with some type of sponge on the underside of the plug. It looked kinda cool so I didn't think much of it but it has now spread to the rock the chalice sits on. It's grown pretty quick!

How do i get rid of it? I know exposing sponges to air will kill it. but this rock holds up my shelf rocks that all my frags sit on. I rather not have to dismantle the entire rockscape to kill the sponge.

Any ideas?

you can take it out and smash all of the water out of it... that'll kill they... or just peel it off... it's a sponge...

not going against what you guys are saying, but i wonder if that really is the case. only because not too long ago when i moved my large toadstool, it had a large colony of sponge on the bottom of the rock. when it was transported, it was exposed to air all the way from montebello to pomona and to this day, the sponge lives and is thriving in her tank.

I agree Jesse, I've had them out of water before (not terribly long) when on plugs and what not and they still survive. Plus he doesn't want to remove the rock as its supporting the others.

you guys obviously never taken a sponge and squeeze all of the water out of it and have it die...
