Hey guys i bought a bio pellet reactor yesterday and hoped to set it up today or tomorrow. I have a total of 230 gallons and a heavly stocked system. Bought the aquamaxx reactor aswell. Any tips on how much i should start with, or a guide to find out how much to start with would be awesome. Or any tips for starting at all! Thank uyou

Don't do it! If you must insist on jeopardizing your livestock, use a tenth of what the pellet manufacturer recommends.

Bio pellet are great but please please please understand them before you use them. I will give some pointers

Soak bp's for 24hrs in Rodi first

Start with 1/4 dose and work your way up to the full dosage.

Must keep alk close to nsw levels 7-8 dkh

You must I repeat you must once at full dosage feed heavy if you don't the pellets will **** near strip water clean and you will starve corals if not lose a few of them.

These are the major guidelines I've given I still recommend you understand how carbon Dosing works as well as maintaining an ulns. Pellets are not a fix all nor are they magic jumping beans. IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THEM THEY CAN AND WILL CAUSE DAMAGE.

Start slow, use only a quarter the recommended amount and add a quarter every two to three weeks until you have the right amount after two months.
Adjust the flow inside the reactor so it's not clumping but it's also not a tornado.
Replace as needed . I add a pee cup and a half every month to mine. Never had any issues. I use dr.tims.

I would start even lower then a 1/4 of the recommended dose. I did like 1/10 of the recommended dose. I was super paranoid. If u have SPS, or even chalices it could starve them real fast.

U can always add more. If u starve the tank too fast, there's no bringing back RTN SPS. Lol

I added a little bit over 2 months till my nitrates were zero

I switched from Dr Tims to Warner marine. I was getting nasty cyano and hair algae with dr Tim's. It was really weird.

Cool. All you guys place your BP output infront of the skimmer inlet? I am going to start tomorrow after soaking the BP for 24 hours in RODI with 3/4 cup of Aquamaxx Biomaxx biopellets. They instruct .5 to 1 liter of BP per 125 gallons (1 liter = 4.4 cups). My tank is roughly 230 gallons total volume, so 1 liter total is relatively conservative. So 3/4 cup would be about 1/6 the recommended amount. Anyone think is this too high or too low? Thank you!
