So, I'm familiar with STN. And from what I have seen always starts from the base/middle up. I am having an issue with my tips losing tissue (but the base remains stable). TDS is a little high (27) so I am seeing diatoms in small amounts (covers the sps tips once they start receding). Params are all in line (if not too low), fish are happy, softies are happy, Monti's are happy, stylo's/pocci's/birdsnest are happy (except the one my fish decided to eat). But the acro's are giving me the bird.

Any ideas? Start dosing amino's? Start running the skimmer part-time??

Check alk. If its too high it may be the cause of your stn

With High alk. The sps is supposedly less tolerant to other parameter swings. When i asked some of the gurus they said keep the alk 8-10 max

But bring it down to 10 slowly. Dont make my mistake and try to instantly balance the alk back out. Last year I over compensated and lost alot of my colonies

Sounds like alk burn like este says. How are your nutrients? 12dkh is not an issue as long as the corals arent starving.

They're probably starving. 0 NO3, .003 PO4, SG 1.026, 0 Nitrates, 0 ammonia, 8.3 pH, Ca 460, Mag 1500, Ammonia 0 - I'll retest after the WC tomorrow, will also test silicates (TDS out of the RODI is 27 - but I haven't done a water change in a while).

At what rate per day is safe in your experience? I dont have this problem, bit it would be good to know.
Is that question for Cy or for me? :) Rule of thumb is no more than 1dKH per day. My tank uses more than that per day so I have no choice. BTW - Update your build. What have you added, where are you at now?

Wow, eat some dinner and watch a little tv and miss all the good threads. High alk and low nutrients usually leads to burnt tips but I'm late to the party. So yes I agree but missed the opportunity to be the guru. So kudos to the gurus and from now on I log on before dinner

Also that TDS is disgusting. My tap at work is less than that. Change out at least your DI resin. But I would change them all out. I bet you have phosphates too coming out of that MUD butt water.
