So we bought a house I don't have to break down and sell my stuff yay. Any ways my question is when I do the tank move I'm going to have to take the sand out the tank is just way to heavy any extra weight in it will just kill us lol when I go to set back up should I add live sand of dry sand? I still have 20lbs of dry left over I was thinking of adding 20-40 more lbs. I'll have over 50% of the tank water lets just say 90%. Anything about doing this I should be concerned about? Should I reuse any of the old sand? Thank you.

i always use new sand because of all the detritus that will be stirred up also you might have (dang it, forgot the name)toxic build up. you can clean sand before using it again save you some cash

Use dry sand, it's less expensive, you can wash it with tap water instead of the saltwater needed for "live" sand and most importantly "live" sand can contain enough dead organics to kick off a new cycle.

Just get all new sand. Too much detritus in old sand. Do you still have live stock?

Ps.. congratz on your new house.
Thank you. Yes I still have live stock.
Thanks everyone so far for the advice. I really am not looking forward to this move of the tank. But at least it won't have to move again lol until I upgrade lol and that'll depend on the wife lol.

Ya either use new dry sand or youll have to wash out old sand. I have some dry sand you can have. You'll just need to wash it with tap. I just filled up a 4 inch sand bed for my 72x30. I have bout 80 pounds left over lmk

I've used new sand on all 3 of my upgrades, 50% of the water into the new tank and your golden. Just like a normal water change if you can knock it out quick

You can wash your old sand with a hose, then drain as much of the tap water as possible and let it sit in the sun for a few days before yoi add it back. Letting it sit ouside will get rid of the chlorine.
