I hate this hobby. Went from a 55 gal to a 120 gal to a 140gal in about a year.
Then, got the Moorish Idol and decided I needed a slightly bigger tank to give it more swim room. Not to mention, I began to hate internal overflows. So, I thought of upgrading...then Life got in the way. Things are settling down, but a full on upgrade wasn't in the plans. Then Goober came to the rescue.
Goober is now setting me up with a 68 x 32 x 22 acrylic. 1/2 all around, eurobrace and rear external semi coast to coast overflow (30" x 4.5 x 10 deep).
I wanted a bit more swim room and real estate within the tank, without needing to purchase more lights or whatever. If I need to get more lighting, I may just get a 60" retrofit, or wide angle lenses on the radions.
I'll be reusing the following:
48 x 22 x 18 AA sump. maybe I'll try a bigger sump, but that's much later
MP60, MP40 x1 (although may get rid of 1 or 2 and replace with a gyre...i'll wait on reviews)
Aquamaxx coneS CO3 skimmer
Jebao DC6000...until I get rid of it for a new pump
Radion x3
48" Retrofit T5
Jacob will be helping me out with my stand....pics to follow once I get materials or whatever.
After seeing my tank up for the last year, there's some things I learned, which I want to implement onto the next build, namely:
a cabinet or whatever you call it to keep the ballasts, Apex, etc. and include wire management.
a shelf inside stand for the DJ strip, doser, etc.
I really like black sand. However I hated how bare spots showed up. So I'll be painting the bottom of tank black to blend in with the black sand. That way I can up flow a bit and hopefully it won't be as noticeable if sand gets blown around.
