Hi all....just upgraded from a 55gallon tank/10 gallon sump to an 80 gallon/30 gallon sump two weeks ago...all is well except in the past few days I have seen an abundance of brown algae growth on the glass and sand....I used the water/live rock from the old tank but new sand.
The parameters are ok with nitrates and phosphates higher than I would like...
nitrates: 25
phosphates .50

Just purchased a new phosban reactor with npx pellets and will setup Thursday.
Another item to be replaced is the in-tank circulation pumps. Koralia 750 and Sicce 3 which seems to randomly shut itself off from time to time. I plan on replacing them with 2 MP10s or one MP40 this weekend. Will that suffice for in-tank flow?

The skimmer is BM NAC 5A and my return pump is MAG 9.5 The overflow box has a one inch return but had to dial the pump down to stop the overflow noise. Not sure what the overflow is rated at since it is generic and bought used....probably replace that with one rated for 800GPH.....

Anyways, should I give it another week or go with the replacements I mentioned....

corals and fish are doing fine except my turbo snails have been dormant the past week....other smaller snails and crabs are active

thansk for your input...

Definitely, .5 is very high, imo. Get that reactor going quick...

Also, new tank syndrome will still hit anytime you change stuff. Was the new sand rinsed very well?
+1

If that phosphate reading is from a test kit then it's really high since kits ain't worth $#&@. But, even if completely accurate .5 is plenty high to get all kinds of algae. Check your alk once you get the GFO reactor running. Alk might drop or ramp up how much GFO you use.
