so guys I was up late Tuesday morning at 1 a.m.. working on my tank because of a late water change and work schedule. so I have one hand in my tank trying to pull up my media sock that got stuck in the return line in the sump. without thinking about it trying to unplug the pump so can release the suction and release the sock. where I started to get electrocuted. thank God it wasn't my time to go. feeling like I could not release the voltage. I heard my (gfI= ground fault circuit interrupter) pop out. realizing that it stopped the shock. so what's the story guys being a state certified electrician being foolish. please please install GFCI protection!!!!. its not only are safety but also our wives are childrens our grandkids
. I'm even offering out my services if you guys need them. administration that has power to remove this post please leave it on for our reefer friends and families. thank you Lord Jesus.:a13::blink:

I've had a ton of electrocutions in the past (mostly in my home country though) but having wet hands or worse having it in the water is actually a bad habit to have.

Good to hear you're ok and grateful for being saved!

Are there any particular type of gfci's to use or just the standard wall plug version. Can you just buy the kind that has it built in to the multi plug extension?
Thanks!

Get the standard wall plug.
The multi plug extension will need a reset if you have a power outage.

GFCIs aren't any harder To install than a normal outlet.

Odds are 110v can't kill you. Most injuries come when people fall from ladders after being shocked.

yeah, you can easily swap in a GFI duplex without even turning off the circuit, though if you're not comfortable working with it, i'd not recommend that route.

well it sounds like a few of us don't have( gfci) and of most of us are not qualified electricians are highly recommend turning off the power. after all we are putting a gfci near our tank, I'm sure our outlets are close to a sump area. GFCI have what you call a load side and a line side . when removing your outlet and if you have four wires they should be all terminated in the line side of the gfci. is my phone number guys 9096 481382 you have any questions please don't hesitate to call as this is super important. am still meditating on what could have been last night. amen

Also a good idea to split vital, life supporting equipment like circulation pumps on two separate circuits in case one trips.
