I might have missed a post about this as have been so busy with things.

But unfortunately it seems that this is another place going out of business :( A real shame as it was a great little store.

Will be sad to see it go.

Bob was a cool guy, he even offered me a job after I quit selling cars, but I stopped going there after he let a pb tang sit in the wholesale bag for half a day waiting for me to pick it up, and offered no guarantee. Sure enough he died and wiped out half my tank. He also mentioned his finances waaaaaaaaaay too much.

that's tough one , cause it is a delicate fish and coming from wholesaler to his tank and then your tank in a 24 hr period may not have been any better

Bob's a decent guy. Hard to stay in biz though when you don't keep regular hours. I tried to buy some saltwater there at 3pm in the afternoon and there was a sign on the door "be back after 5". He may close the storefront but will probably continue doing servicing which is where the real money is anyway.

Yeah but I could have waited, like how you guys offer to keep it and try to make sure they are healthy before taking them home. No such service existed.

Man that blows. Bob is a real nice guy. One of the ones who always tries to help his customers rather than always trying to make a buck in him. Torrance needs a good LFS.

Nope! Because he gave good, friendly and helpful service. :)

I wish we had had more cash to spend in there... last time I went in he was doing lots of services and had closed on a Monday to accommodate them.

The notice said he was selling off stock the final week but only saw the notice driving past.

Consider the facts:
1) We go into a retail store and sap as much knowledge as possible from the owner/staff, only to go purchase the item(s) on Amazon or eBay.
2) We complain when a store owner earns a mere 15% markup on items he inventories, on his shelve he had to buy & assemble, in a store has to pay a lease on, etc.
3) We organize and conduct group buys so as to bypass the retailer entirely, even knowingly forfeiting all rights to warranty, just to save a couple of dollars
4) We form clubs to demand group discounts and Free donations to our raffles, but do you think we could so much as put up a banner on our website for the store? (not a chance)
5) We slam them on public forums for even the slightest litttle infraction, but mention good deads only when it's so epic a gesture that we feel compelled to show it off.

Given these conditions, just how long do you think it will take before the "Fish Store" business model becomes entirely extinct???
Points to Ponder, is all.

Consider the facts:
1) We go into a retail store and sap as much knowledge as possible from the owner/staff, only to go purchase the item(s) on Amazon or
eBay.
=>>>>Unfortunately, this happens to many other kinds of stores, not JUST LFS.
2) We complain when a store owner earns a mere 15% markup on items he inventories, on his shelve he had to buy & assemble, in a store has to pay a lease on, etc.
=>>>> It is not 15% on all the inventories, maybe Tanks or chillers...the high end items only.
3) We organize and conduct group buys so as to bypass the retailer entirely, even knowingly forfeiting all rights to warranty, just to save a couple of dollars
=>>>>I even saw the store owners doing this, not just members.........WTH?
4) We form clubs to demand group discounts and Free donations to our raffles, but do you think we could so much as put up a banner on our website for the store? (not a chance)
=>>>>Did not know we demand such things. I thought the vendor like Hydor, Tunze,... donate those raffle items to gain popularity...
5) We slam them on public forums for even the slightest litttle infraction, but mention good deads only when it's so epic a gesture that we feel compelled to show it off.
=>>>>hahaha. Disagree with " but mention good deads ONLY when it's so epic a gesture "
Given these conditions, just how long do you think it will take before the "Fish Store" business model becomes entirely extinct???
=>>>> Have you ever seen the show called "The last comic standing"?
Points to Ponder, is all.

I like many LFS, but like you said, they won't be all around for ever.....We make friends and sometimes we lose some ....It is hard out there in this business I agree!
