Whats up guys, long time no....post? Anyways just thought I would share the beginnings of my new tank. Some of you have seen it already, some in person.

I plan on doing mostly SPS, maybe the occasional micro or ricordia.

Here is the hardware right now, I dont have the skimmer for SPS right now, but I plan on getting a new one in a few weeks.

60 Gallon Cube
SS Lumen Max 2 SE
SS Galaxy 400w Ballast
XM 400w 20k
18 Gallon Sump
Aqua-Euro USA Skimmer ( I know I know )
QuietOne 3000 for the return, I figure it is putting about 300gph out the return which is what I wanted.

I had a single K4 in my 60g long and I decided to change that out for 2 K3's. Although ultimately I will go with Tunze nano's.

As far as livestock, it is pretty slim at the moment, a pair of mated clowns (they are about 5 years old now), a small 6 line wrasse, a lemonpeel angel, and a royal gramma.

Inverts include a marshall island electric blue hermit, a few nassarius snails, and about 12-15 turbo snails, as well as a sand sifting star I have had about a year now.

Currently 90lbs of LR in the tank, I wanted some vertical space to allow the SPS to grow up.

On with the pics?

Here is the tank shortly after it was setup.

And here it is a few days later.

Shot of the clowns

Shot of the angel

Shot of the gramma.

Here is one of the marshall crab.

And that is it so far, the tank keeps a temp of 79-80 during the day. It is winter here and I anticipate the need for a chiller when the summer comes. I have started Prodibio as of yesterday I have seen mixed reviews, I had to try it for myself.. Next up is a Korallin Ca Reactor and pH controller. SPS will soon follow.

You can check out my site for more info and updates on tank params etc etc with a webcam soon. Just click my homepage link.

Enjoy...

Look very clean Marc. Nice setup.

Any idea why your tank temp runs so high, especially now during the winter? If you haven't already, maybe you should double check the temp with another thermometer or two. I've found that most of them are off.

Thanks guys.

@pookstreet

Well over the last few years I have battled with temps, no matter the lighting. When I had my 60g long and PC's I had a chiller, I sold the chiller when I switched to T5HO and added fans to the hood, that kept it around the same temp as now with the MH.

Thats is actually the temp that I am comfortable keeping my reef at 79-80. My Ranco thermostat and the coralife digital therm read about the same.

I do take a lot of tips and tricks from you guys with the larger tanks and try to incorporate them into my smaller tanks.

I see in your second picture that the clip-on fan is pointed up toward the light. Is that how you normally have it facing? I would point the fan toward or across the surface of the water. That will promote better cooling of your tank.

Looks really nice, keep us updated.

Yes, this came up on another forum as well. In my current sump I have a small return section, I dont have an ATO system and cant afford to have that much evap and ruin my pump while I am not home. This will all be cured with my new sump :D

Until then cooling the fixture has served me well :D

Thanks for the comments!

I plan on lowering it about 6" when I have a chiller. I would love to see PAR readings throughout the tank as the light sits right now though. Anyone have a meter? Hehehe

You could prob lower it alot more. I have the same light set-up as you (400w galaxy/xm 20k) & the bottom of my reflector sits about 6" above the tank & I still get minor spillover. Planning on lowering another 1" in a week or two after acclimation. Besides, the more par the better

See the splillover?

Well it looks like I will be playing around with a few different heights. How do you like you stealth? That was my first choice but they have been backordered forever.
