Hi everyone, I was wondering if everyone could share their ideas, inventions or what have you on their diy frag racks that are attached to the side of the tank. I've seen a few people superglue egg crate to a mag float but that seems like a waste of a mag float to me. I came up with this idea to use suction cup hooks to hold egg crate but I'm worried about the corrosion aspect if these hooks. When metal gets corroded will it start affecting my tank in a negative manner? If attacked some pics of these hooks. Their just basic cheap materials in the hardware section of a corner store. I saw magnets at home depot also but again, I'm worried not only about the corrosion but scratching my acrylic tank. Any contribution is much appreciated!

Here some food for thought.
Back in the days pumps didn't come with magnet holders. They came with suction cup holders. Do u know why they don't come with suction cups anymore? Cause they fell all the time.

I wouldn't use those suction cups as yes the metal will corrode. Someone will chime in and say rust is GFO, but the truth is there are so many different metals out there you never know what is rusting in your aquarium.

Some people use magnet cleaners to hold up the racks. The new frag racks come with magnets that are either dipped or coated in rubber or plastic to prevent rusting.

Lol yes this is true! Do you have any input on magnets being submerged in saltwater?

My original idea was to buy magnets but when I got to home Depot they didn't sell any that were coated.
I haven't tried Lowes yet but intend to sometime. Have you seen these magnets sold anywhere?

So I just saw this idea of putting silicon over the magnets from home depot! Sounds like a good idea but then again, most contestants for the darwin awards probably said the exact same words.... hehe

I have an extra bottle of tank silicone I used to make a coral viewer, shout out to Mr. DIY for the instructions. Bean Machine, do you think the magnets will corrode through this silicon?
