Not sure if this is where to post this but here goes... I have come up on a deal on someone selling their 180g used tank with back center overflow, with stand and canopy, also including an 80g acrylic sump, return pump, and protein skimmer all for $500 does this sound too good to be true? Any advice on what to look for when buying used tanks? I think they just want it out. I did notice the stand does not have a center back brace, seems like it wouldn't be strong enough for the tank when filled even if it is made of oak...

Sounds like a decent deal...

Remember bigger tanks might be a little cheaper for a couple reasons...
1) harder to sell as not many people have room for a big tank.
2) might just have standard glass.
3) depends if they are getting out of the hobby... Just might want it gone

Sounds like an awesome deal. I got a 150g for $80 off craigslist and I'm gonna get an old oak stand for it on Sunday for $65 its sitting in my garage right now its my slow cheap craigslist build project lol. But I'd buy that if I had the money. Sounds decent

I got a 120g with stand for $150. It leaked 4 months after setting it up. I'll never do a large used tank again.

Having said that it showed signs of stress that I probably should have paid more attention to. If it looks in good shape and passes a fill test then pull the trigger. Then think about re-siliconing it...

The one I got had a plastic trim that was falling off...first clue.

You might consider removing the silicone at the seams with a blade and resiliconing it. Just to be safe.

yeah, i'm gonna be doing that in the future.. hadn't realized how much each one of those panels weigh, til i picked up a 4x2x1/2" piece of glass.. they're not light.. >_<

wonder where you can buy those corner pieces that hold the corners together. your old tank was missing one (well, cracked and basically serviceable)

I just saw this post and thought I could help. I bought a 150g tank but the bottom panel of the tank magically shatters according to my wife, I think she hit it with the car, but does not want to admit it. Anyway I still have the stand and canopy they are used but in great shape. Its your if you want them they are yours just pick them up. Its for a standard 5'x2' footprint.

I bought my 180g fish only tank for $200. add $300 for stand, canopy and sump and it sounds like a decent deal. I would highly advise you re-seal the tank. I had mine re-sealed just for peace of mind. might be a little extra to do it but you could end up like Omar. (sorry omar)

What pump and skimmer does it come with? Pics arent working.

500 being a deal would depend on the equipment it will come with and condition of the tank and stand. Could be a good deal but might not. Post everything it comes with.
