Hey everyone I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with uv sterilizers? I was wondering if it would have a good or bad afftect in my tank, I have a 55 gallon reef tank mixed reef except no sps. I am not trying to kill any parasites but mostly wondering of it improves water quality. Also does it to harm to your tank? Any input would be greatly appreciated

It kills free floating algea so your water is really clear and kills most parasites. That being said good stuff is killed as well but not enough to have a negative effect. I live have in gone on mine.

If you're aren't prepared to buy a $200 or more unit, most of the cheapies are definitely not worth it. On another note, you can also run a completely successful tank without ever using one. Whatever's clever.

Sterilizers will polish the water. It will also kill parasites. If you run a bacteria dependent filtration system, I would recommend against it. As someone said prior, sterilizers will also kill good stuff. Bacteria being one of them. Not to say that it will wipe out the bacteria altogether but a bacteria dependent system will be compromised. I have a UV sterilizer for sale if you are interested. I converted to Zeovit and have no need for it. It's never been used. It was a demo for a video shot for the LFS.
