Hey everyone - Vivid just got 2 new huge frag tanks and have some really good deals right now - I just went there today and they replace 2 of the frag tanks and doubled their livestock. I always stop by there cuase its by my work. Just talk to Shawn - very helpful. They dry goods are prices really good too! Anyone been there before?
I'm surprised nobody else has chimed in on this.
There are not many decent LFS on the West Side or even in SFV, but Vivid stands out. I stop by there almost once a month. Dedicated to SW, brightly lit, which is nice to see. Not a terribly big fish selection, but the fish always look healthy. Corals are very nice and often look hand picked, and their 800g growout tank is impressive. Kudos to Dave the owner. Invert selection is often decent although not exhaustive. Useful snails are limited to Astraea an Nassarius (never seems to sell Ceriths or Trochus). Livestock prices are a bit high, but the quality is too.
Staff is helpful without attitude, but not all are equally knowledgeable. Store is sometimes busy, so plan a bit of extra time if you plan to buy. They also have water jugs for sale, as well as large vats of LR (semi-cured, $5-$7/pound). Dry goods selection is limited, except excellent Salifert test kit selection. Currently sell nice Solana Nanos, and JBJ.Dry good prices not outrageous like most LFS.
Last time I was in there, there stock was a bit low and nothing really stood out to me, but that was a first for my experiences at Vivid.
