Thanks Keith. Yeah I've read that. I think Vu posted links for new batteries that weren't difficult to swap out after a year or two.

I think it automatically kicks it down to 10% speed on backup mode. Never had a power outage lasting more than a 3-4 hours where I am and hope never will but it does the job well because it turns on automatically. Good to know when you are not home or if your generator requires manual kick start.

So far about 3-4 power outages since I had the battery backup. Hasn't failed me yet. Do keep the battery fresh though.

my personal tank has a 2.5 year old one and power went out a few weeks back. It powered one mp40 for less than two hours at 10%

There's a thread on here somewhere that you can buy a replacement aftermarket battery and change it out for alot cheaper than what vortech charges

I picked one up at lunch. Does it come charged? Should I plug it into an outlet for now? I need if for tomorrow morning for a few hours. I will order the battery tender unless someone says I can get it local?

Thanks for the feedback my people.

Unless you want to keep throwing a new battery at it every year, it's also important you have the proper smart charger that knows when to stop cooking the battery.. I prefer the battery tender jr. $23, good investment.
how do you hook up a battery tender to a vortec battery backup

Black and decker makes something similar. $20 at Home Depot. The one Crystal recommends is also a pretty good one.

Thanks Vu. Would I be ok to charge it with what it comes with for now? Then get the Battery Tender or Black n Decker version?
