Hello socali!! im Rafael and have been in the hobby for about 8 years now im originally from south oxnard where i started reefing and have been moving up and down the coast off and on to were i currently reside in atascadero dragging my setups along lol!! I currently have a 90 gal mixed reef with a 30 gallon sump that i upgrade too from a 46gal bowfront that i had setup for a couple years I started this build with an awsome deal off cl which included a 90 tank with stand and a 30 which i turned into a 3 chamber sump. I wished i would have taken befeore and after pics ofthe setup cause when i got home the wifey couldnt belive i spent money on it..lol it was i lil ruff but 6 months of accumulating parts and a lil elbow grease and i was able to transfer my46 bowfront into this badboy!! The tank is now a lil over a year old so heres some pics of the build and some current to follow heres the tank after i cleaned it up and painted the back with krylon rattle can...

I got 5 ecoxotic led stunner strips and built a mounting track out of L channel aluminum from home depot and some aluminum solder from harbor freight to help out the t5 as i was running a 36" 6 bulb aquaticlife fixture that has been upgraded since with a hamilton fiji sun 6 bulb t5 and to help with pop cause i luv me sum royal blue led's and bright colored corals lol!!!

All the plumbing installed 1" pvc and spa flex in sum places with a 1" scwd i used over the top u returns and drilled siphon breaks to utilize the return hole in the overflow as an emergency drain herbie style i believe ive since added a union between the return and scwd

What is that black deal you have on the returns? What does it do?

its a squid and it rotates you flow back and forth between returns I have had bad experience with those personally but have friends who sware by them and they have awesome tanks

Mounted a shelf above the tank to hang the fixture into place as there was no studs in the apartment above the tank to hang it and i like the way the shelf came out it was a big + with the wifey when i put the fam pics up on the shelf

All filled up and transfered the bowfront over sorry for the super blue cell phone pics its all im workin with and my phone dont take too good pics i went with indo pacific black/white sand since all my other setups sand was white i wanted to try something new and i really like it

What is that black deal you have on the returns? What does it do?

The black thing in the middle is a scwd "squid" and the black on the pipes is foam pipe insulation i used in sections to help with noise if it touches anything

A lil update : since my last posts i switched out my dd geismann pure atinic with another coral + so my current bulb combo is from front to back blue+, blue +, coral+ ,blue+ ,coral+ ,blue+ I'm really diggin it it brighten it up a lot I like the color of the geismann but with all the lights on you really couldn't even see it only with one blue+. Here's a few pics I was napping enjoy
