controversial question, gets a controverisal answer... I change 1/3 every 3-4 weeks.
We all have our reasons.

back when I had a 100 gallon setup..I was doing around 7 gallon water change a week and everything was nice and healthy. I had a large bioload also.

I think the sys is better of if you do a smaller more frequently as the sys will not change as drastically than one bigger one. I am going back to 1 gallon a day work very well for me hth.

If you have a big bio-load and feed a lot, like 3 times a day and a not so super skimmer, then 10% a week should be done...if not weekly, the bi-weekly 20%.

I do 10% a week on my 75g even though I feed only once a day...Mixed tank, mostly sps dominated....

No matter how much or how often you do a water change, you want your parameters to stay generally the same as far as calc, alk, mag, etc. i.e. you wouldnt want to do a large water change and have your alkalinity drop from 11 to 7.
