Mine's been running for 3 weeks now. Ugh!
If there is truly a recall I don't think it'll matter if its used. I didn't order directly from them so I can't ask them.

I emailed their cust support. We'll see...

The pump should be fine. The whole argument seems to be an ethics issue. There is far more into the situation that reef builders article shows.

Pump should be fine. From what I took down from skimming through it, waveline got clear with UL cert on one product and decided to pull a quick one and put that trademark on everything else. Happens, eheim did that to me too when I got 2 $60 300watt heaters with UL cert all over package and body. they both set off some gnarly stray voltage in my tank right from the start. UL listed my a $$

In my search, Waveline had no products with UL certification. Jebao had several but none of their DC pumps were listed. Eheim had several listed but I wasn not looking at heaters. Still though there is no stand alone heater that I would consider over the Ebo Jager.
