As far as equipment goes behind the tank, I still have the stock filtration, bio-balls and carbon inside of a large sponge, I added a 50w heater and am still adjusting it to keep the tank in the 79-82degree range. I also upgraded the pump to get more flow within the tank and keep things moving around.
DIY LED lights in the stock fixture which was actually pretty fun and only cost about $55. I got lucky and got a beautiful live rock to show off some nice corals and add some little fishies down the road when they are comfortable. I used LFS water and I am currently waiting to see life get going in there.
I've never done saltwater before, I ran a few freshwater tanks as a kid in my room and currently have a Cichlid tank and a Betta tank in my daughters room. I became interested in saltwater when I saw the rising popularity of the nano tanks which don't seem to require a second tank to run properly. I know they are pretty sensitive so this will be done step by step (day by day, A fresh start over a different hand will play...). Needless to say, I'm pretty excited.
