A client was asking me about what fish stores were worth going to in Riverside and SanBernardino counties.
I haven't a clue as to what stores there are. Any reccomondations?
Mystic reef: when I was just getting into the game, one of the brothers sold me a two headed Duncan for $75. I realize and believe in "caveat emptor", but there's also no better way to loose a new customer once they wise up. Never again.

I noticed there was a store in Hemet as I was passing through (can't remember the name) can't imagine there are alot of reef hobbyists in Hemet but has anyone been to this store?
Yeah? That sucks. When I was setting up my 225 he told me they could beat any price on hardware...and he couldn't beat the prices so he called the distributor and complained and ratted me and the other company out.
The store in Hemet is called Fish & Frags. The owner's name is Tony. It's a small store, but variety is not bad. They are helpful to noobs, and prices seemed reasonable.

Fish and frag shack in hemet is a good little store. Dont expect to find anything high end but he has a good variety if you are looking to fill your tank. Prices are good and usually has a descent variety of fish in stock.
Yeah I had a bad experience with Mystic Reef as well. I've been there many times and it was okay but I can definitely feel the selling pressure. I remember the first time I came in as I barely walked thru the door one of the brothers (Jeremy) bombarded me with a tons of questions and when I told him I'm gonna walk around a bit....he told me "So you just going to look and not buy anything right?" I mean WTF?!?!
But that wasn't as bad as one other time when I traded him a bunch of frags along with my 40 head duncans for some of his frags. I was supposed to get a few zoa frags and 4-5 different variety of monti frags......well I didn't check ALL the bags and when I got home I realized 4 out of 5 of the monti frags weren't what I pointed out in his tank. he instead gave me some cheap a$$ red/green monti....one of them is even half dead!!! When I called him up on the phone he just play dumb and said he will take care of me next time. Well there will never be a next time!

Well, that is totally cool that a store owner is having a go at it in a rather thin market. I hope that we can draw some attention to his store then and bring them some much needed business.
on the other hand, it seems that some older well-established stores tend to get greedy at times......Hmmmm, this gives me an idea.
Mystic Reef is also off my list. Walked in looking for something and the store did not carry it. Usually not a big deal "we don't have that item" is good enough but the associate insisted I had it all wrong because what I wanted didn't really exist despite the fact that other locations have it and there are photos in books and online complete with scientific and common names. OK whatever I don't care but he kept on it. Then he tried to sell me something else. I had enough and just left but on my way out he wanted to get in one more jab by telling me that there were so many high end items in his shop and he did his best to get me something unique as if it's my loss. I'm willing to take that loss and I'll go elsewhere from that point on.
