What can cause a large mushroom to bleach?

I’ve had various shrooms start to bleach once in a while. Some recover, some don’t. Most of the time they get small. And it’s usually one species or one set of shrooms of the same color (I.e green ones only) that are affected.

Parameters are within spec for the calc/alk/mg. My nutrients are on the higher side like 25ppm nitrates and phosphates reads 0.1-0.3

Any thoughts?

Temp and lighting most likely. Zero N & P will cause it, but I’ve never seen high nutrients cause bleaching in soft corals, they would have to be extremely high to cause issues and mushrooms wouldn’t be the only ones affected by those levels.

Shrooms bleaching is typically caused by bacteria infection. It usually happens when introducing large amounts of new euphyllias or LPS corals to your tank. Even if they've been conditioned for a long time, they can still carry the bacteria. A lot of people use chemiclean and other anti-bacterial/anti-fungal medications to treat them. Cipro meds is another dip that can help. I personally have not used any of these things so I can't say how exactly how it works but I heard some others saying some great things about them.

Hmm this makes a lot of sense since I recently did add a torch. Good point, thank you. I have bottles and bottles of cipro so I’ll use that and make a dip. Maybe treat the whole tank while I’m at it.

Gotcha, you never know if it has anything to do with the new torch. If not that, hopefully you can ID the problem soon. You might want to talk to some people before treating the whole tank if that's something you still plan on doing. There maybe a better option but I'm not entirely sure, good luck!
