So this is going to be a two part question...

1) Do you cut them off the plug and glue to the rock?

2) In doing that how easy or not easy is it going to be to trim/frag them once they grow out on the rocks? (acans, Chalice, Zoas etc)

I am in a situation where I have to many plugs, and not enough places to put them, But I also want to eventually be able to frag them easily. I know a frag tank is an option, I have plenty of open rock space I could glue em too. I like variety, and wouldn't want the colony to get too out of control.

I will eventually down the line add a frag tank, but If i brought another tank in the house my woman would castrate me.

I am not the most expert on this topic but here are my two cents.

Frag plugs are just plain ugly. So yes, you can glue them to your rock work but they are an eye sore. So, I prefer to cut the plugs off (I do that for both esthetics and to avoid pest eggs) and glue the frag to the rock work.

In terms of trimming acans, chalices and zoas, well that is a problem. Most of these will encrust on the rock work and then it is very difficult to remove a frag (more like impossible except for zoos which can be peeled off rockwork with difficulty). Another option is to use reef epoxy ( a little ugly) then glue the frag to the putty. The putty then can be removed to frag your colony. Of course, you can't let the putty adhere to the rock very well or you will never get it off the rock work I generally let the putty just lay on the rock work and I make sure not to crush it into the rock work or you won't get it off. I hope that makes sense.

Here is a pic of a chalice on reef putty
