I am not sure if there was a thread like this one before on here. I looked and couldnt find it.

What got you into this hobby?

For me I was sort of born into it. For as long as I can remember I have always had a tank. My parents owned a LFS in Santa Monica called Age of Aquariums. Later my dad became a sales rep for LeeMar so we always had aquarium goodies in the house.

I went to a LFS just looking for places I can buy freshwater "stuff". When I saw "Dori" and "Nemo" I was fascinated. So I wet home that day thinking about them. I research every single day. I bought a 20 gallons with "live rock" from craigslist and thats where it all started. Slowly went from a 20 to a 75 to a 135 and now a 150. I did have other nanos in between. and now I might be getting a 220 very soon...

I was in the fw discus hobby for over 10 yrs before switching over this salt water. For me, it is about the science of keeping the coral to survive, growth, color, frustrations, labor of love, and enjoyment. The other reason for getting into this hobby is having a piece of natural marine reef in a rectangular glass box in my living room is priceless.

I agree. However, if that piece of glass is having pms like cyano out break or gha boom then it is 10 times worse than having nothing there at all ! :)

since i can remember we always had a fish tank... and since i was like 5 years old, i always had a crazy amount of pets... from snakes, to frogs and fish... i've never not had a fish tank of some sort... everywhere you look on my property, you can see an aquarium or terrarium of some sort...

sad part is that my kids are going to be raised the same way... LOL...

and yeah... i stay in the hobby because there are a lot of hot sexy men in the hobby...

I had a SW tank 15 yrs ago on a whim lol.. But gave it up to remodel house for a year and a half of construction .. Always missed it , but believe it or not , it took a devastating injury ( on a trampoline of all things!) and then SPINAL SURGERY to get me back in! I had 7 months of bed rest , and couldn't stand tv anymore! So , talked my bestie into driving me to buy a used setup and used the ' sympathy' card w my hubs to help me till I was medically cleared to maintain it :) best rehab ever lol

I guess it started with reptiles always going to the local pet store looking at all the tanks then a buddy of mine got a cichlid tank freshwater of course. Got one of those. Then going to the local pet store for supplies for my cichlid tank looking at all the salt water tanks while I was there of course always wanting one and then finally making the leap over the rest is history..lol

I guess I started kind of late in life at 32. Got into this hobby by accident in a way, but really hoping to continue with this hobby.
I never had much in common with my father. With a boy on the way in April, I'm really hoping that reefing will be a strong common interest. If he ends up not liking reefing...fine by me! I'll continue to do it lol!

When I had a freshwater cichlid tank I would always stop in at the local fish store and look at the saltwater fish amazed, then finally switched up when I had enough money saved and rest is history

Saw my uncles saltwater 100g fowler, sold me his 14g Biocube, quickly upgraded to a 30g cube and then a 120g within a few months.
