In the last 2 days the base of my huge sinularia colony has started rotting and turning blackish. Pieces are dropping everywhere. It's completely folding over, yet it's still fully open. Any ideas? Water parameters are good, just checked a couple days ago, nothing's changed so I have no idea what's going on.

I would say chemical war with that monti and the monti is winning. Your best bet is to frag all the healthy branches off. I've yet to see a leather recover from this kind of damage.

Sorry Blaire that's a bummer.
I had a feeling that might be it. I started scraping the monti away 2 nights ago. I'll try and frag the healthy pieces later. I think I can save quite a bit of it. I'll have to remove as much of the monti as possible too. I hate that **** thing, it seems to be killing everything in its path. I thought sps were supposed to be delicate? I can't kill them, and they kill everything around it. I wish I never would've put the monti's in the tank.

I had this happen to my favorite spaghetti leather coral. It was gone in a few days and I was only able to save a few small frags.

RIP awesome leather...

Oh wow, that's awful! Well I'll definitely start fragging off what's left tonight. What a pain since you can't really glue them. I'm so bummed. Is there an easy way to kill monti's? Or do I have to just sit the with a razor blade and scrape it off? The rock it's on is massive and holds the whole rock structure in the tank together so there's no way to take it out. Those monti's grow over the top of everything. Even the corals with sweeper tentacles won't kill them.
