Hey my friend gave me these what looks like bio balls. He used it for freshwater but I soaked it in ro/di for a day. Can I use them like rubble rock? Or to add to my sump for housing bacteria? Help??

My question is what makes u think u need to harvest more bacteria?
Do u have live rock?
R u having issues with nitrates?

I pref to have a big bio filter .. Seahorses make a huge mess... So it helps to keep the tank stable. Guess I'm always adding rubble rock to the sump to help.

I guess I never asked this but is it bad to have too much bio filtration?

You dont want to be counterproductive. When proper flow cant pass through rubble or other media or mechanical filtration the build up of detritus will cause more issues. The increased surface area for bacteria wont do you any good.
